New England Match Longest Victory Run From Brady Years with Win Against New York Jets
First-year player Henderson has recorded five scores this season
The New England Patriots matched their best victory streak from the Brady era as they beat division rivals the Jets by 13 points in professional football
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson was the standout with three TDs as the Patriots notched an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since legendary quarterback Tom Brady's final season with the team in 2019
Signal-caller Maye accumulated 281 yards and a touchdown, completing 25 of 34 passes
The triumph increases the New England's lead at the top of the AFC East as they improved to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets bottom after falling to two victories and eight defeats
The visitors had scored first at their home field with quarterback Fields scoring a short rushing score to cap the Jets' initial series
But the home team fought back in the second quarter as Henderson ran in two seven-yard touchdowns before the ball carrier grabbed a reception from Maye at the back of the end zone in the middle of the third quarter to extend the lead to 21-7
"That was a big time for him rising to the challenge, and it's been excellent for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback commented on the rookie. "He desires to be outstanding."
Justin Fields threw to Metchie toward the end of the third period to reduce the lead for the Jets but Borregales booted a two field goals in the fourth quarter as the home side closed out the triumph
