21 mins: Intense Play as Both Teams Compete
21st minute: The Broncos push forward to halfway and nearly break through the defensive line through Walsh and Shibasaki on the left side. Another excellent delivery from Reynolds on the final play maintains Brisbane's momentum. For three tackles they stay in control, but some quick passes release the rapid Jahrome Hughes, and as he's tackled on the 40-meter line, a set restart is awarded for holding down. The Storm are finding their flow, and Warbrick breaks through the defense, followed by Xavier Coates making a sprint – only for Walsh to catch him high with a shoulder charge! Is that a sin-binning? No, rules Atkins, because Coates was buckling. The fullback is under review regardless, and the Storm continue their onslaught.
19 mins: Cameron Munster Leads Melbourne Attack
19 mins: Cameron Munster is active as the Storm move quickly down to their 30-meter line. On the right side, Jahrome Hughes kicks high, Eliesa Katoa rushes up, but in the aerial battle, the forward knocks on, and the Broncos finally get a breather.
18 mins: Melbourne Apply Force on Broncos
18th minute: The Storm execute a perfect set from the kickoff and put plenty of pressure on Deine Mariner with the last tackle kick. Once more, the Brisbane struggle to advance the midfield in response, and Adam Reynolds is compelled to boot it deep to stay in the game.
17th Minute: Setback for Melbourne
17 mins: There's a setback for Melbourne. Jack Howarth has been subbed out due to a groin issue. Wishart is entering in his place.
SUCCESSFUL TRY! Storm 12-6 Broncos (Eliesa Katoa, 15)
Brilliant, absolutely stunning. Following consecutive set restarts, the Broncos are tiring. From tackle three near the try line on the left, Melbourne move the ball inside for a couple of passes before Jahrome Hughes kicks it off the ground and the charging Eliesa Katoa times his run to perfection to pounce on the bobbling ball and stand to mark his team’s second try!
From slightly right of the posts, Nick Meaney kicks his second conversion.
12th Minute: Melbourne Display Thrilling Attack
12 mins: The Storm appear thrilling in attack. There’s speed from the play-the-ball, power from the forwards, and crisp hands from the backs. A threatening move ends with a kick high to the left corner that is knocked on by Reece Walsh and results in a penalty to the Storm for an escort on Xavier Coates. The Storm reject the two points and set up under the posts. There’s a six again – and another – as Munster weaves side to side.
10 mins: Back-and-Forth Action
10th minute: Stefano Utoikamanu has lived up to his word from the start and his carry from the restart enables first Grant, then Ryan Papenhuyzen, to snipe from acting half. Hughes kicks from 40m and Reece Walsh catches the high kick on his 10-meter line. Brisbane show reduced thrust this drive and get fortunate on the last when Ben Hunt's pass to Reynolds is dropped. Fortunately, the experienced playmaker delivers a great kick to turn Coates around and makes the Melbourne wing to sprint from his in-goal. The Broncos are too eager with their chase, hitting the winger with a high tackle, and Storm can gain favorable territory.
CONVERTED TRY! Melbourne 6-6 Broncos (Meaney, 8)
From the scrum, Stefano Utoikamanu powers forward to the 20m line. Then, from quick ball from the play-the-ball, all of Melbourne’s big names get a touch as they move it out to the right hand side until Nick Meaney straightens up, runs at an angle at high speed, and breaks through a flimsy tackle line to dive over for an immediate response!
The centre dusts himself down to add the conversion. It's a tied game!
7th Minute: Both Sides Trade Possession
7 mins: Both sides exchange conservative sets around halfway, but then the Broncos attempt to attack on their left, only to fail to find Gehamat Shibasaki with the pass. William Warbrick advances quickly and forces a knock on for his efforts.
5 mins: Dream Start for Broncos
5th minute: That is the perfect beginning for the Broncos, scoring first before Melbourne have even touched the ball, in an offensive play led by both Payne Haas and Walsh. The Storm might feel a little aggrieved at the referee awarding such an quick infringement, but they were soundly opened by the blistering Brisbane offense.
CONVERTED TRY! Storm 0-6 Brisbane (Deine Mariner, 3)
Following a long kick, Brisbane begin their attack. Melbourne give away a set restart for being offside, and quickly the ball is in the red zone. Reece Walsh positions himself? Waiting on the right side, attracting Jack Howarth, standing his ground, then someway passing to Deine Mariner on his outside. The outside back cuts infield, reaches the line, then just, only just stays in the field of play as he runs around to score beneath the goalposts.
There’s a delay before Reynolds kicks the goal, but the Bunker confirms the referee's call. Accor Stadium is erupting to the sound of jubilant Queenslanders.
2nd Minute: Early Infringement
2nd minute: Corey Jensen, not Haas, takes the first hit-up of the night and Melbourne are quick to tackle… but just three tackles later the Storm concede the first penalty of the game for Harry Grant impeding Haas on the floor. The Broncos right away on the attack.
