Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the initial candidates in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolves.

The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend following the squad's ten-game winless beginning to the top-flight season.

Furthermore both candidates - each of whom have historic links to the club - are part of the names to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

Edwards is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton head coach - who made over a century of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is considered a strong candidate for the position.

The mid-career manager is said to have support from the club board as they start the process of hiring a new head coach.

O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a surprising choice considering he was released by Wolves in December last year.

The ex- West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not be required to pay any compensation.
