Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, posted a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
