Viewers who are craving a gory thriller film that provides guilty pleasure while making you wince, it's likely Bone Lake is on your attention. This new horror movie from filmmaker Mercedes Bryce Morgan hit theaters on October 3rd with an ridiculous concept and a evocative label to complement.

A Blend of Humor and Horror

Given the title like Bone Lake and an opening sequence featuring individuals sprinting stark naked through the woods—only to be targeted with a bow in vulnerable spots—it's safe to assume there's a lot of comic relief in the movie. Moreover, the film's ending, which show the main couple battered and bruised yet chuckling madly together, have a tone of dark humor.

It would be necessary to find something to smile at, as well, if you endured what Diego and Sage go through in Bone Lake. A couple full of romantic issues from the beginning—poor dialogue, unsatisfying sex, an unfair burden of money pressures, etc.—their relationship is challenged when a second pair, the character Will and Cin, invade their romantic weekend.

Will and Cin manipulate Sage and Diego's insecurities in their relationship. They tell untruths and gossip about the other couple, stating to have information on an cheating and other internal drama.

The anxieties burst in the most extreme way possible when Sage and Diego find out that Cin and Will are not merely here at Bone Lake accidentally: they are the owners and have been enticing couples to the grounds in order to get them to stray on their partners. Why? Because Cin and Will are truly brother and sister. Subsequent to their forbidden relationship was discovered by their mother and father and they were forcibly separated by force, they resolved to punish all others (including their family). Given that the people turned against them simply for their desired relationship, then they'll fight back at the society. Will and Cin's aim is to reflect back to all the duos they finally end up killing, in an endeavor to prove that their bond is no less real (or invalid) as the love of these additional duos they try to break up.

Unexpected Bonding

Yet, what Cin and Will fail to consider is that Sage and Diego, despite their failure to talk with one another, do care for and adore each other. It just took having a deadly duo try to end their relationship and murder them to realize it. If that sounds grim, it is not presented that way. Bone Lake's mood is leaning toward comedy than actual fear.

The movie concludes with Diego and Sage teaming up to escape Cin and Will's murderous intentions. What's interesting is that while, at the start of the movie, you perceive a huge gap in the relationship between Diego and Sage in contrast to Will and Cin, by the conclusion, Bone Lake flips it upside down. Will and Cin split up to hunt Sage and Diego, but Sage and Diego are communicating better by this point. They collaborate to slay the character Will with a cutting device. They then turn on the character Cin, who dies horribly at the depths of Bone Lake's body of water—but just before Diego reclaims the engagement band intended for Sage that the character Will had swiped and gifted to Cin.

Aftereffects

Following the events of their two killings, covered in blood and viscera, Diego and Sage rest side by side on the edge of a boat. Ironically, this is the nearest they've connected since the outset of the movie, since all their relationship troubles have been exposed for the two to see, and all they have remaining are their beaten and wounded selves. To reinforce their renewed intimacy and intimate understanding of one another, Diego moves closer to place the wedding ring on Sage's finger and, when she looks to inspect it in the light, the couple start chuckling.

It's easy to understand the reason: When, the character Will asked for marriage to the character Cin, it was a idyllic, romantic moment. Whereas Diego follows suit for the character Sage, they've recently survived a terrifying experience. And yet, the character Diego's proposal to the character Sage is not based on falsehoods, just the realization that they've emerged from the most terrible experience of their lives and, despite everything, they even now desire to spend the rest of their life together.
